The 2026 Honda Passport Sees Improvements in Pretty Much All Areas
While you may be focused on 2025, Honda is already thinking much further ahead. In fact, the company just revealed details about its 2026 Passport, which looks pretty fantastic. There is some good news and bad news with this, however: because it’s still on its way, you won’t be able to check out this SUV here at your Honda dealer near Edmond just yet; until then, though, we here at Eskridge Honda decided to share with you everything we knew about it so far, so keep reading if you want an insight on the 2026 Passport!
A Brief History of the Honda Passport
Before we start looking into the future, let’s take a quick trip back in time. With the rise in popularity of the SUV segment in the 1990s, Honda took full advantage, and the Passport was introduced in 1993. With its great interior space, it was a quick hit with families. Plus, with available four-wheel drive and a two-speed transfer case, avid off-roaders loved it as well. The second-generation Passport debuted in 1998, but just a mere four years later, the model was discontinued. Fast-forward to 2019 and the Passport was resurrected. Now completely redesigned, it offers more power, space, and fun features.
In the last five years or so, the modern Passport has established itself as the ideal middle ground between the smaller CR-V and larger Pilot for those who found themselves in a Goldilocks scenario. Come 2026, however, it will be the Passport’s time to shine! In its latest rendition, this model will have a bolder and more rugged appearance, maximized interior space, and some exciting new additions under the hood.
More Power, Better Off-Road Ability
As the name suggests, the 2026 Passport is a vehicle that you will want to take to many different places. It is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 285 horsepower—a figure that’s improved over the previous model’s output. Another change concerns the transmission, as the former nine-speed automatic has been replaced by a more competent ten-speed.
If your future plans involve exploring terrain you won’t find on a map, the Passport is certainly up for the challenge. Honda’s i-VTM4 torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system is eager to show what it can do on the trails. Honda says this revamped all-wheel drive system provides a 30% faster response than the previous system, and it has a stronger rear drive unit with 40% more torque capacity.
The 2026 Passport also has a sturdier chassis that’s based on the same platform found in the Ridgeline. The Passport’s TrailSport trim is the ultimate off-roader, as it comes with a uniquely tuned suspension, multiple skid plates, and all-terrain tires. In addition, you will get to play with seven drive modes, including three new ones: Trail, Sport, and Tow.
Enhanced Design for Performance
Even if you never intend to take your Passport off the asphalt, you will enjoy the driving experience it offers. For a midsize SUV, it handles curves confidently, and the steering is accurate and well-weighted. Its stopping power is excellent, as its brake rotors have been increased by 1.2 inches in diameter. Plus, it now has a 2.8-inch longer wheelbase with a 1.4-inch wider track.
If you expect you’ll need to tow now and again, your Passport won’t let you down. Its engine produces 262 lb-ft of torque, which, when properly equipped, will let you tow up to 5,000 lbs. In addition to all of the TrailSport’s off-road features, this trim also comes with a trailer hitch with a seven-pin connector.
Ample Interior Space and Amenities
In addition to its rough-and-tumble qualities, the 2026 Passport has a softer side. Inside, you will find a plush cabin with two spacious rows that accommodate five people. Thanks to its longer wheelbase, there is more room for passengers, and those riding in the back will have an extra 1.3 inches of legroom. Standard comfort features include heated front seats with power adjustments and leather upholstery. The TrailSport gets synthetic leather upholstery and all-season floor mats. If you really want to treat yourself, go with the TrailSport Elite, which adds ventilated front seats, perforated leather seating, a heated steering wheel, and rear door shades.
One of the notable features of the Passport has been its large cargo area, and that’s gotten even better for the 2026 model. While the outgoing Passport offered 41.2 cu.ft. of space behind the rear row, that amount is now 44.0 cu.ft. The total amount of cargo room has increased, too, from 77.7 cu.ft. to 83.5 cu.ft. when the rear row is folded. To sweeten the deal, however, a power tailgate comes standard—but that’s not all, as there are also several other areas where you can store your stuff, including a large underfloor compartment, tiered door bins, and shelves and cubbies built into the center console and dashboard.
Improved Tech and Safety Features
If you thought the new Passport was done improving, think again, as it now comes with even better features. First of all, the previous eight-inch infotainment touchscreen has been swapped out for a 12.3-inch touchscreen. This system utilizes Honda’s latest software and has Google support; this means that Google’s apps are built into the interface, giving you access to Google Play, Google Assistant, and Google Maps.
Every model also comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and a pair of USB-C ports for the front and back. A seven-speaker stereo is standard, but the TrailSport Elite replaces it with a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system with a subwoofer. This trim also adds a 110-volt power outlet to the center console and the cargo area.
The 2026 Passport is far from just fun and games, however, as it’s been designed to enhance the safety of your passengers. While ratings for the new model aren’t available yet, this SUV routinely gets high scores, and the 2025 Passport received an overall safety rating of five out of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.[a]
Furthermore, the 2026 Passport will come with the Honda Sensing suite. This collection of advanced driver assistance features includes automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, which will apply the brakes if a collision with a vehicle or pedestrian is detected. Blind spot monitoring is also standard, and this will let you know if any cars are around you that you can’t see just with your mirrors. You will also get a rear cross-traffic alert, which monitors traffic coming from either side of your vehicle so you know whether or not it is safe to back up. The 2026 Passport will also come with automatic high beams, a lane-keeping aid, traffic sign recognition, and adaptive cruise control.
